The theme for this month is self-love. So why would I pick a theme like this for my business clients. How we think about ourselves dictates our experience and is therefore critical to our success. So this month, February, home of St Valentine, celebration of love, on the coldest month of the year, if you are in North America and the one where we are trying to light a fire for relationships.
It is a great time to think about the love you have for yourself and how you are expressing that love. As entrepreneurs and leaders, we can easily neglect ourselves for the sake of our organizations, team members, our family, our vision. We often set ourselves up with very aggressive goals, timelines, and activities that don’t leave us room to take care of ourselves. We know this is not sustainable and yet we have so much trouble saying “no” and slowing down as if we will miss out on the success we are desperately searching for.
You have asked for so much. It’s coming. Working hard is a great way to create distraction and patience while the Universe organizes the opportunities that are yours to have. There are two things I would encourage you to think about. 1) How can you enjoy the journey? Slowing down can support you in feeling what is happening and appreciating your path to success. 2) What happens when you arrive at the success you want and find your body failing you, or your relationships challenged, or your exhaustion overwhelming your enjoyment of the life you have been working for after all that time?
It takes discipline to build a business and it takes an equal amount of discipline to love yourself enough to take care of yourself.
This is what I told my husband. Minimally, you must:
- Get 6-8 hours of sleep
- Drink 8 glasses of water each day
- Eat something green every day
- Exercise 30 min a day
- Quiet your mind for 10 minutes a day
You don’t have to make self-care difficult. You just have to do a few things a day to support your body getting what it needs to keep performing for you. So Happy Valentine’s Day! Happy Self-Love and Self-Care Day to you!
Love this Monika!! Keeping self care simple is achievable. Thank you for the reminders.
