It a new year and people all over the world are envisioning what they want in this year. My clients are doing the same. They are setting goals for their businesses and their personal & professional development.
A few people that I have been in conversation with are having challenges with opening their minds to greater possibility because their current situation is so constrained at this moment.

If you are having this experience here is a way to support yourself.
First, get centered and grounded and think about all the things you are grateful for however big or small. Feel the impact of that gratitude on your spirit and being.
Second, clear your mind for a few minutes – no thoughts, no noise, simply move to a place of stillness. Try to hold that space for 3-5 minutes if meditation is new to you.
Third, allow your mind to expand and dream a bit about what you want to be celebrating in December. Think about the experience you want to have throughout the year as you achieve your goals and do your work. Think about what you have always dreamed of doing, creating, or being. What part of that picture is possible this year?
Now, write that down. Bullet points are great. A narrative that tells the story of this year is great. From that develop 2 or 3 SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonable, and grounded in Time). Post these at your work station so you see them every day.
Then, create benchmarks and an action plan that makes those goals inevitable. I do a plan for the year so I can take my work and other obligations in to consideration as I schedule due dates and when I will get things done. This helps me with the grounded in time portion and keeps me realistic and living in my value for self-care. I am committed to 7 hours of sleep each night, eating well, and exercising 4—5 days per week. So, as you can imagine, that means I have to laser focused during the day so all I have at night is planning and answering email. And when I achieve my weekly goals, I get the weekend off. Yeah!!! I digress.
I have found my system that works for me. I have 5 year vision & life map, my annual goals, benchmarks, and I do a 90-Day Action Plan that gets into the nitty-gritty of my work and calendar. Then a few years ago, I pick 1-3 things each week that I must get done along with whatever is in my calendar that will move my bigger goals forward. This way they are always in front of me and I am doing something each week towards them. I celebrate with Fridays off when everything is good or at least doing something fun like writing, or lunch with a friend or colleague. Any kind of treat does it for me.
What is your process or system? What works for you in achieving your goals? What tips can you share with our community? How do you support yourself in holding your goals and vision? How do you hold yourself accountable for creating what you want?
It’s a new year! You have the opportunity to start anew and create more success and a more manageable, pleasant, enjoyable experience for you in the process. Try it. If you need more support, call me.
