Love is a choice we make thousands of times a day in how we treat people and ourselves, and how we do business – Monika Moss-Gransberry
I got serious about being in business in the early 90s when I went from being a freelance consultant to building a business that was dedicated to working with nonprofits so they could better serve the community. That later expanded to work with government agencies, corporations, small businesses and entrepreneurs as a coach and strategist.
I realized that I was most successful with clients that I cared about and who’s work I cared about. Love is clearly one of my top 3 values and I used to jokingly say that I loved my clients into compliance. But it wasn’t until I was in an entrepreneurial training program that I embraced who I was by making love an explicit value and putting it on my website.
I came out of the closet with my love.
And it was then that my work began. I taped the word love to my desk and began to meditate on what it meant to love my clients and live/work authentically from a place of love. And I began to learn about unconditional love and all the ways it shows up and doesn’t. One place it showed up was customer service. I learned that good customer service is Love in action.
- How are you taking care of your customer from their first interaction with you through the closing of that interaction and beyond?
- How we think about and treat our customers is critical to our business success and it is definitely an expression of love.
- How are you building that into your systems with intention?
- How are you listening with love?
Think about the bad customer experiences you have had in the past.
Think about how many people you may have told about that incident. Likewise, think about the last time someone at a company made you feel good about doing business with them, made a difference in your life because they went the extra mile, was joyful and helpful on the phone when you had a problem. Think about all the people you told about that experience, how many people you may have referred to them because of your experience was so positive.
If you love your customers it will show in how you greet them, how you have the sales conversation, how you build your offering, the value you work to bring to their every interaction, and how you engage with them while you provide the service and beyond.
What is good customer service in your business? How do you love up on your customers and make a difference in their lives?
Love is the Universe’s hands working through each of us to make a difference.
How are you answering the call to love?
Each act of kindness for yourself and others is love in action. How are you renewing yourself, how are you refraining from complaining, promoting tranquility in your home and in your place of business, how are you providing service and thinking of ways to make each person feel special, appreciated and loved in their interactions with you?
