Where do you go when there is not enough information and all your intellect and usual methods of discernment fail you? Most people, even top executives, lean into their spiritual practice and rely on a different kind of knowing. It is almost never talked about because it is so absolutely personal to each person. And strategically, leaders have very little wiggle room when it comes to making decisions. Most leaders can’t afford for their team to know that they have no idea what to do.
Nevertheless, each of us has a place where we go when all other ways of knowing fail. During those times, there is only that place of connection with a higher power that is left. I have clients and friends from every religion and spiritual practice, even agnostic. They all have a place where they go, and everyone calls it something different.
My hope is that you identify that place, understand how to access that spiritual way of knowing that lives deep inside every human being and cultivate that place.
It is more important now than ever before as our rapidly changing world becomes more complex every day. In addition, there is more information available than ever before thanks to the internet. Yet we know less than we ever did about what is really happening and how it will affect us. Plus, the information we have available is forever changing. From information about our economic and financial systems to education to health, most powerfully since the onset of the COVID Pandemic.
We are in a time of transformation. We don’t know how it will turn out. We don’t know what it will take to get to the other side. And everything we used to rely on rules, regulations, protocols, laws, strategies; all of it is in flux.
So I am grateful for COVID pushing us to be still and go inward. I am grateful for the snow, which is doing the same for us now this winter in so much of the country. Because like many of us, I need to get clear with myself. I am again answering the critical esoteric questions:
- Who am I?
- What do I want?
- What will it take to get what I want in ways that are aligned with my values?
I need time to reconnect with my spiritual knowing and learn to hear it clearly and trust that place of intuition. And I need to practice when I am not under stress, so that it will be there when I need it. Meditation, physical movement, personal growth and development is where I am putting my energy and time this first quarter of the year. I am practicing and honing these intangible skills every day. So, when I need these skills, I am ready. What about you? Are you ready?
Don’t really know what your way of knowing is?
Here are some practical ways to get connected to yourself and your intuitive knowing.
- Spend time alone in silence with no outside stimulation – start with 5 minutes
- Spend time outside everyday just being – start with 5 -10 minutes
- Pay attention to what you naturally do when you have to make a decision
- Journal about how you are making decisions as you pay attention not only to your thoughts but also to other signals like your heart, your gut, and your emotions.
Let me know what you learn about yourself…
